Householders to get 'premium' payments

The Government has launched its 'premium payment' scheme to encourage British householders to install renewables.

This is the latest development in the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, which currently only applies in the commercial sector, but will be extended to domestic consumers next October to coincide with the introduction of the Green Deal.

The 'Renewable Heat Premium Payments' (RHPP) are designed to bridge that gap and £12m has been allocated to pay for 25,000 installations of solar thermal; heat pumps and biomass boilers.

For end users to qualify for the RHPP, their installer must be a member of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
