Crucial role of heat meters

Heat meters are vital to the success of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which has now been in operation in the commercial sector for five months.

The data gathered by the meters determines how well an installed renewable heating system is performing and the level of RHI payments due to the end user.

However, there have been a number of instances where meters have been incorrectly installed or not properly calibrated so undermining the whole basis of the RHI scheme.

Without any nationally recognised standards for heat metering available, B&ES has developed a draft technical guidance document in conjunction with a number of industry partners. The draft was open for public review and all interested parties invited to contribute.

All contributions will be acknowledged in the final published version, which will then be made available via the B&ES website to help develop good practice in this area.
